Is Carson Wentz a possibility for the Raiders? The one-time quarterback for the Washington Commanders might make a comeback in the NFL, this time as a backup the Jimmy Garoppolo in the near future.
ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez reports that the Las Vegas Raiders may consider Wentz as an option if Jimmy Garoppolo’s foot injury is not fully healed in time for the season. The Raiders were aware of Garoppolo’s injury when they signed him, and even included a clause in his three-year contract to safeguard the team in case he fails a medical examination.Although there has been speculation surrounding the health status of Garoppolo, head coach Josh McDaniels has displayed unwavering confidence in his eventual return. However, in the event that he is not yet capable of returning, Gutierrez suggests that the Raiders may opt to consider signing Wentz.”
In the event of the Veritable doomsday scenario, where the current Las Vegas Raiders quarterback situation proves to be a disaster, pivoting to Carson Wentz may be considered a desperate move by many .Although Wentz has been discarded by three teams and has had a less than impressive performance record, he may still be an upgrade over the current backup quarterbacks behind Garoppolo. The alternatives, including Brian Hoyer, Chase Garbers, and Aiden O’Connell, have not yet proven themselves as viable backup options. While signing Garoppolo was a calculated risk, the Raiders may have erred in failing to secure a solid contingency plan in case of an emergency. The decision to pivot to Wentz would ultimately depend on the Raiders’ level of desperation and willingness to take a risk on a potentially injury-prone backup
Let us all pray the Raiders are not starting a man that lost his job to Tyler Heinicke. The Raiders would be much better off seeing what they have in the young rookie Aidan Connell.
