Welcome! My name is Michael J. Harrington, but most of my folks call me Big Mike. Born in Los Angeles in 1987, and raised in beautiful Pasadena, CA, home of legendary rock group Van Halen, Lakers legend Michael Cooper, "The Grandaddy of Them All", and Jackie Robinson. Sports played an intrical part in my life at an early age. While kids my age were watching cartoons and playing with action figures, I watched Sportscenter before school and bedtime. I was fully consumed in the world of sports. I cannot remember when I first became a Raiders fan, but I recollect the times of tuning in to KCAL-9 to watch the Los Angeles Raiders with my dad. My dad was a meticulous record keeper and a Budweiser enthusiast. At the beginning of each season, he would purchase the 20-pack of beers that contained the NFL season preview and schedule booklet, and would religiously jot down the scores next to the corresponding games on a weekly basis. His collection of Raiders hats, memorabilia, and Raiderette posters became a Raiders shrine; one that he sustained til the day he passed away in 2020. My father was in and out of my life throughout the years, but one thing he did leave me was the love for the Silver and Black. My teenage years, I began to find a love for playing the game. In high school, I played the game at a high level, playing Varsity football for 3 years, earning League honors and earning an invitation to the East-West San Gabriel Valley Hall of Fame Game. A back injury and a knee injury ended my pursuit to play football at the collegiate level, so I reverted my energy into journalism. While writing at Pasadena City College, my highlights include being a beat writer for the Womens' water polo team, as well as other feature pieces. In 2015, I joined the U.S. Navy where I became an IT specialist and radioman. I am currently serving and coming close to 8 years of service. Today, I currently have a wife and 3 children, and reside in Oxnard, CA. I am thrilled to begin this new endeavor; a dream fulfilled----writing about the team I love and working with brilliant, like-minded people.
